Series 02
Television and the Public Interest is a significant speech from the early days of broadcast history when a potent and principled FCC spoke directly to broadcasters demanding more than simple cheap thrills on our airwaves.
REVISITED is an experimental essay remixed to modernize the moment and ask us all to again push further into artistry and the transmit of ideas to avoid cultivating yet another “Vast Wasteland".
Our media culture is enormous, and amazing. It’s eclectic. Good comes with the bad. Not everything that gets created can be excellent. We all make duds.
Television and the Public Interest Revisited hones in on expecting creativity will not regress to the mean, that it will not cater to ratings and audience whims alone. Making media isn’t about simply selling something. We should all remember to push further and “do better”.
Created with a mountain of freely available stock video clips heavily remixed and reworked into motion abstractions in full 360/VR. This produced over 100 unique artistic abstract clips that became the core visual for the short film comprising over 200 edit points.
Television and the Public Interest Revisited debuted at SIGNAL 001, 2019 and SXSW 2019 German Haus. This artwork would not have been possible without Crosswater Media.
