2 Days on Porter Ridge

BTOWN - May 2013. On Friday afternoon a friend back home in Indiana posted they need extras on location for the reality show Porter Ridge finale they’re shooting tomorrow morning…So Roger Lou and I decide to drive down from Chicago to be on set by the 7am call time Saturday. We didn’t want to be extras, we wanted to work. Summer in Chicago was going slower than usual and any chance for a day of pay was worth the hustle. The problem was Gurney Productions wasn’t interested in more PA’s, they were interested in Extras. We didn’t care.

Upon showing up Roger and I connect with our friends on crew and start working like we belonged there. Several people insisted they couldn’t pay us, but no one told us to stop working…so we didn’t stop. Before the lunch break we were hired on at the day rate. By afternoon we were called back to work again Sunday, and by the end of the day Sunday I was building an early network that eventually brought me to Los Angeles, and Roger had a regular freelance opportunity with the art department in the Midwest.
